Our Ministry Team
Our Ministry Team
Men of Valor isn’t just a program—it’s a family. Our team is made up of former inmates, pastors, teachers, counselors, and servant leaders who share one thing in common: a deep conviction that God still transforms lives.
Whether leading behind prison walls, walking with men on campus, working with policy makers to effect systemic change, or supporting families behind the scenes, our team doesn’t just serve the mission—we live it. Every decision, every conversation, every step we take is shaped by the same core principles we teach our men:
We VALUE: Faith in God and Human Dignity
We believe every person is made in the image of God—no matter their past. Our team sees beyond the criminal record to the man inside. We walk by faith, not fear, and call out the God-given identity and potential in every life we encounter.
We RESPECT: Denominational Differences and Cultural Diversity
Our team is united in Christ but diverse in background. We serve across theological and cultural lines without compromise or division. We honor the stories each person carries and create space for growth, accountability, and grace—because that’s what we’ve received.
We PRACTICE: Servant Leadership, Radical Kindness, and Discipleship
We lead like Jesus—through humility, presence, and action. Whether we’re teaching, mentoring, or cleaning up after a meal, we show up with intentionality and love. Our goal isn’t to impress—it’s to empower.
We EMBODY: Humility, Vulnerability, Teachability, and the Hope of Restoration
We don’t pretend to have it all together. Many on our team know what it’s like to fall—and to be restored. That’s why we lead from a place of vulnerability, not performance. We model what transformation looks like, because we’ve lived it.
We are not perfect people—but we are living proof that God restores what the world gives up on. And we’re committed to walking with every man until he becomes that proof, too.

Raul Lopez
Executive Director
Raul was born in Havana, Cuba. His family escaped communism and fled to the USA when he was a young child. Raul gave his life to Jesus in his twenties in California, and he has been serving God ever since. Raul served in the church as a youth group leader and was active in young adult ministry and summer mission trips. Raul and Julie raised their family of six children in Tennessee. Raul had many leadership roles in business including co-founding a successful company and acquiring another business. Raul also founded a successful political Hispanic coalition. Raul has lead Men of Valor since 2014.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
In 2006, Raul met Carl Carlson at the YMCA. Carl asked Raul to pray about Men of Valor’s need of an Aftercare Minister. The more he prayed, the more Raul realized God wanted him to fill that role at Men of Valor. Raul worked at Men of Valor as Aftercare Minister, then in Fundraising. Before his passing, Carl named Raul as his choice to lead Men of Valor after him. Raul is honored to serve the Lord at Men of Valor. He prays daily to have the wisdom and love of Christ the lead this ministry well.

Adam Rimmer
Prison Minister – West TN
I Joined Men of Valor in 2023 with a goal of extending the ministry I had in WCFA prison as a chaplain to other ministries. I have a D.Min in Chaplaincy, and will be finishing a PH.D in Hermeneutics soon. My heart is to preach and teach the Bible to whoever may listen, and to turn their lives toward Christ and live incarnationally. In my role I lead discipleship groups across prisons in west TN. Ministry to the broken and lost is my main mission in life and passion. Outside of work, I pastor a church, do foster care, coach football, baseball, and basketball, play the guitar.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
To be the Billy Graham you’ll never hear about, meet men where they are at, and make disciples that make disciples.

Alex Perez
Philanthropy Director (Middle TN)
After spending 50 years in Miami, God spoke to us much like He did to Abram—calling us to pack up and move to Tennessee. I trusted Him completely, though I still needed a job. In December 2022, I interviewed with Men of Valor, and by January 2023, I had joined the team. If I had to sum up both experiences in one phrase: I am home!
Serving alongside these men has transformed my life for my GoOD and for God’s glory. It has also deeply impacted my family—my wife Alexandra, our son Elyjah, and our daughter Kassandra—who proudly supports this ministry with me.
At Men of Valor, I have the privilege of helping others connect their time, talent, and treasure to their passion—giving them purpose and advancing God’s Kingdom here on earth. I’m honored to be part of a mission that restores lives and brings hope through second chances.
“Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?”
“I can’t take credit—God said yes. I obeyed in faith, and I’m glad I did. Nothing has felt closer to walking with God than serving at Men of Valor. God is on the MOVe, and I’m grateful to be part of it—now and forever.”

Dr. Alfonso Gilbert
Chief Education Officer
Alfonso currently serves as chief education officer, helping shape leadership culture, trauma-informed values, and professional counseling. He has been on staff since 2021 and has a passion for integrating theology and psychology to help men heal from adverse childhood experiences, compounded by years of incarceration. He deeply values the image of God in people and strongly believes that each person regardless of their background is gifted with skill and talent for the purpose of building and encouraging others. He additionally serves as a ministry leader, speaker, and educator.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“As a former Mexican gang member turned lifelong ministry leader, I said yes because I believe the Lord has given me a story with these two life experiences so that I can give incarcerated men hope for better lives, healthier relationships, and fulfilled purposes.”
Outside of work, Alfonso loves date nights with his bride, play dates with his grandchildren, vacations with his four adult children, Socratic conversations with friends, reading widely and playing the blues guitar.

Angela Martinez
Special Events Administrator
I’ve been part of Men of Valor for nearly seven years, and this mission is deeply personal to me. I grew up in California surrounded by gang culture. Many of my friends ended up incarcerated or caught in addiction, and I’ve seen loved ones walk through the prison system. Those experiences shaped my heart for this work and my desire to see lives restored.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Because I’ve seen what happens when lives are lost to the streets—and I’ve seen what happens when God intervenes. I wanted to be part of that transformation. In my role as Special Events Administrator, I plan gatherings that connect our community to the mission and invite others to join the story of transformation. As part of the philanthropy team, I help cultivate relationships and coordinate meaningful events that celebrate the work God is doing through Men of Valor.
Outside of work, I’m a proud mother, a singer-songwriter, and an author. I’m passionate about creating things that point people back to purpose and remind them that no story is too far gone for redemption.

Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Anthony chose Men of Valor because of the strong faith-based approach to healing, restoration, and reconciliation. It’s amazing seeing God work in the men’s lives!

Anthony Charles
Program Director
Transformed by grace and purpose. At 17, he chose service over the streets, enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving honorably for over a decade. After returning to Chicago, he faced deep personal struggles that led to addiction, manipulation, and incarceration. In 2006, while in prison, Anthony encountered the Men of Valor discipleship program, where he met Jesus—not just as Savior, but as Lord. Released in 2010, he graduated from the aftercare program and eventually joined the Men of Valor staff. Today, Anthony serves as the Program Director, a living testimony to God’s redemptive power. His journey from brokenness to leadership is a beacon of hope for others seeking restoration.
To God be the glory.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes to Jesus, and that’s why I said yes to Men of Valor. I am The Called—personally chosen to make disciples. Romans 8:28, NKJV reminds me: all things work for good for those who love God, for those who are The Called according to His purpose.

Barb Charles
Volunteer Coordinator & Administration
In 2016, I attended my first Men of Valor (MOV) breakfast at Brentwood Church, and it was clear from that moment that God was inviting me into something special. I felt an immediate connection to the mission and began serving as a volunteer—supporting administratively and offering my gifts wherever needed. From preparing meals to helping with summer dance camps, I embraced each opportunity with joy, knowing I was serving as unto the Lord.
Over the years, my role has grown to include serving as a staff member, job partner, legal advisor, and notary. I’ve always approached this work not as a job, but as a divine assignment—one that God has entrusted to me for His glory and the transformation of lives. Today, I continue to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator at the Knoxville, TN campus, where I’ve had the privilege of laboring alongside an incredible East Tennessee team for the past three years.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
My heart is deeply committed to the vision of MOV: winning men in prison to Jesus Christ and discipling them. Our purpose is to equip them to re-enter society as men of integrity – becoming givers to the community rather than takers. What a blessing, as I get to see every man fully aligned with God’s perfect plan for his life and his family. I believe the best is yet to come, and I remain expectant for the greater things God will do through this ministry.
I’m also blessed to serve in ministry alongside my husband, whose passion for reaching the lost inspires me daily. Watching him minister with humility and boldness reminds me of the power of the Gospel and the beauty of being called to the battlefield together.
It is an honor to serve, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this Kingdom work.

Barry McGee
Digital Skills Minister
I heard about Men of Valor while incarcerated at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and was accepted into the program in 2020. I graduated from Men of Valor the following year. The staff and volunteers continually guided me towards Christ and whatever was asked of me, but my passion was for teaching. I lived on campus for over 4 years, until I married my wife, Erin. I am blessed that she supports me in my work.
I officially joined the Men of Valor team in February ‘25. I teach our men computer skills that will help them to open up their earning potential in the job market. I also teach them to be resourceful, using the tools provided to continue to grow in skill and knowledge. I even get to share the gospel.
Outside of work, I play bass guitar and love to see live music. Erin and I have 2 dogs (Ellie and Emma) and we are expecting our first child later this year.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Men of Valor taught me that I can have a new life in Jesus. This has made a difference in my life, and it is a privilege to work in a God-fearing organization, and I’ve never felt so fulfilled in all my life. I believe in what God is doing through Men of Valor, and I’m blessed they still let me hang around.

Bobby Stout
Employment Coordinator
I was hired by Men of Valor in October of 2022 after completing the program myself. I was first introduced to Men of Valor in 2016 was allowed to participate in the aftercare academy. I was indicted and re incarcerated in 2017 where I dedicated my life to serving the Lord on the inside. I was released in August 2021. I continued to serve the Lord and Men of Valor gave me a chance to serve the men the same way they have served me. I now serve as the employment coordinator and as a reentry minister where I get to walk alongside of men like me daily. It’s a blessing to be able to walk in my calling serving men as they come home from incarceration.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes to Men of Valor because it’s a calling on my life. I have truly been called to serve to men that are going through the same things that I’ve been through. God used Mov as a tool to transform my life and now I’m blessed to give back what was so freely given to me.
In my role, role I oversee every aspect of employment on the Knoxville campus, building and cultivating relationships with employment partners. I assist the re-entry manager and build healthy relationship with the men in our community.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my amazing wife, serving with my church, and I enjoy spending time with my two grandchildren every chance that I get.

Brandi Ricciardone
Grant Specialist
I joined Men of Valor in 2024, bringing over eight years of experience working with justice-involved individuals. This work is more than my job—it’s my calling. Over the years, I’ve developed programs that restore dignity, remove barriers, and create real pathways to success for people reentering society. At Men of Valor, I get to combine strategy with heart, helping secure funding that fuels life-changing work. Every number in a grant report represents a person, a story, and a future being rebuilt—and I never forget that.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“I said yes because this mission mirrors my own: to build pathways to redemption and purpose for those the world too often overlooks.”
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, serving in my community, and dreaming up new ideas that challenge broken systems and restore hope.

Brian Johnson
Prison Ministry Director
Jesus Christ reached out to me with His redeeming love and rescued me when I thought I was unreachable. Since then, my mission has been to reach the “unreachables” and remind them of the HOPE that can be found in Jesus Christ and a reconciled relationship with the Heavenly Father. Desiring to be better equipped for this mission, I received a Doctor of Educational Ministry in Christian Studies degree from Southern Seminary in 2022 with a ministry research project entitled, “Overcoming the Impact of Abandonment on Inmates at Trousdale Turner Correctional Center.” Helping people to know and grow in Jesus Christ is my greatest passion.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
At the 2004 MOV breakfast, I heard Carl Carlson’s compelling vision to reach men in prison with the Gospel and disciple them. That day, I enlisted as a volunteer. After years of volunteering, I was given an opportunity to come on staff a few days before Christmas in 2016. The rest is history.
In my role, I minister inside prisons and jails while overseeing the prison ministry team and volunteers who share Christ on the frontlines.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and five children, studying God’s Word and proclaiming Christ at church, playing basketball, and gardening.

Brian Belser
Florida Program Director
I joined Men of Valor in 2019 because I believe in second chances and the power of God’s redemption. My passion for this work was birthed in the brokenness of my past and strengthened by the freedom I found through Christ. I know what it’s like to be bound by shame and regret—and I know what it means to be set free by grace.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“Because I’ve been where these men are. I know what it’s like to feel forgotten, and I want to be a voice that reminds them they’re not. This mission is personal, and I’m all in.”
In my role, I work to expand Men of Valor’s presence across Florida, build strategic partnerships, and lead efforts to bring our message of hope and transformation into correctional facilities.
Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family, serving in my church, and spending time relaxing and reflecting.

CJ Belser
Family Ministry Coordinator
As a MOV Family Ministry Coordinator, I’ve always been passionate about meeting people where they are with the hope of Jesus Christ. When the opportunity to serve with Men of Valor came, I said yes because “I’ve been that girl!” I’ve been that girl with the incarcerated husband and four children.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes because I believe no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Families on the outside often carry silent burdens, and those inside need reminders that they are still seen, loved and valued. The Men of Valor ministry is a bridge-not just to restoration but to redemption. It is an honor and privilege to walk alongside of both the incarcerated and their families with compassion, prayer and truth.

Clinton Romines
Property Superintendent
Having personally walked the path of incarceration and successful reintegration, I bring a deep, lived understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for those returning to society. My passion lies in helping others find hope, stability, and purpose as they rebuild their lives. Through one-on-one guidance, group support, and community outreach, I work to empower individuals with tools, mindset, and encouragement they need to thrive post incarceration. I believe with the right support; everyone deserves a second chance and the opportunity to write a new chapter. My approach is rooted in empathy, accountability, and real-world experience, which allows me to connect authentically with those I serve. It’s an honor to walk alongside others in their journey of freedom and to be a living example that change is possible.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I came to the program in 2020. After graduating I wanted to continue being a part of Men of Valor. I came on staff as a property minister and have since moved to property superintendent. I am also a certified peer recovery specialist.

Curt Campbell
Chief of Story
I graduated from Baylor University in 1990 and moved to Nashville in ‘92 chasing a music career. I began volunteering with Men of Valor in ’97 and joined the staff in 2005 to launch The Jericho Project, a faith-based program held inside a Core Civic prison. From 2014 through 2024, I served as the Program Director for all in-prison and reentry programming under the Men of Valor umbrella.
Now, as Chief of Story, I am focused on fostering engagement with stakeholders, community partners, and volunteers in our ever-growing footprint to providegreater opportunities and hope for the incarcerated and for returning citizens.
I’m blessed with an incredible wife, two married children and twin grandkids. I’m a lover of the outdoors, the stories God is writing in people’s lives, and all things creative!
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Finding true freedom in Christ is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I want to share it with anyone who has yet to find it and MOV is fertile ground!

Daniel Wise
Production & Media Specialist
I joined Men of Valor in 2021 with a passion to help men find the same freedom that God has given me. My heart for this mission comes from my own journey through incarceration. I know what it feels like to sit in a cell believing you’re beyond hope, and I know what it feels like to encounter God’s grace and discover your life isn’t over.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“Because this is more than a job, it’s personal. God met me in my darkest place, and now I want to use my life to help other men experience the freedom only He can give.”
In my role, I oversee video, audio, and media projects that tell the stories of transformation happening through Men of Valor.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and three kids, exploring Nashville, and creating content that points people back to purpose.

Darlene Pendleton
Financial Specialist
Darlene Pendleton is deeply committed in serving the Lord. Her life is built on her “Crazy Faith”. After being delivered from the “electric chair” She went from Prison to Praise! During her incarceration she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. After serving 3 years in Prison. She became a prisoner of Christ. Her faith has led her on a journey as an employer with local, state, and federal penal institutions for 30 years. Her life scripture is Isaiah 43:10, Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord and my servant whom I have chosen.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
God has chosen her to witness to the incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and family of the incarcerated. To assist in rebuilding lives with dignity back to society. She became acquainted with Men of Valor 20 years ago and immediately a prayer warrior and supporter of the vision of reconciling men to God. She is now the Financial Specialist to help empower, enforce, and educate men on making financial decisions before re-entering society.

David Miller
Capital Projects Director
I joined Men of Valor in 2014 via a phone call from prison and offered a full-time job as Development Director (i.e. fundraising!) Truly orchestrated by God and a gift from God, and I am forever grateful.
Additionally, and supported by the MOV family, I received a full and unconditional Pardon from President Trump in 2020. Once again, But God!
Over time, my role evolved as MOV purchased 26 acres in Antioch with a hope to build a campus. With my degree and career in Architecture, Engineering and Construction, I now spend a majority of my time on creating a neighborhood, with housing for up to 93 men in our program, and a new 28,000 sf Ministry Center scheduled to open in December 2025.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, kids and 6 grandkids. I also enjoy playing golf, especially when my 17-year-old grandson invites me!

Derek Holloway:
East TN Prison Minister
My name is Derek Holloway. I have been with Men of Valor since the middle of 2022 as a full-time Prison Minister. I got plugged in with MOV by first meeting Raul Lopez, who explained the vision of Men of Valor, and then mentored my wife and I on how to run a 501c3 faith-based non-profit called This is Living Ministries for women coming out of incarceration. They then invited me to come lead worship and concerts at various prisons around the state of TN. Then offered me a full-time position. I grew up in church and was saved and baptized at the age of 7 years old. If I wasn’t in school or playing sports or outside playing with my friends, I was in a van with a trailer full of equipment going to some church somewhere, traveling with my parents to go and do southern gospel singings. I strayed in high school, and I, too, was an addict for 15 years and did 6 years at MCCX, where I am now a prison minister. Today I am a licensed and ordained minister, carpenter by trade, and Worship leader at my local church. I have been clean for 17 and a half years by the Grace of God.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I believe in the vision of Men of Valor, and I am a firm believer in giving back what I have been given. Jesus, the Almighty God King of the universe, wrapped himself in flesh, joined us here on Earth, and selflessly loved and served us, setting the example of what it is to selflessly love and serve others. He called sinners to repent and didn’t come for the righteous but for the sick. In doing so, he showed us what it was to attack the very root of our sin nature. It is an honor to be able to serve Jesus in such a way every day of my life inside some of the most dark places on Earth and see the light that had been so freely given to me begin to shine bright in the individuals that I am able to minister to on a day to day week to, week basis

Eric Anderson
Philanthropy Director (East TN)
My journey into prison ministry began in 2011 at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, the nation’s largest maximum-security prison. What began as a simple visit quickly became a life-altering calling.
Over the years, I’ve returned to Angola many times. Before moving to Knoxville in 2019, I also served as a certified religious volunteer in Illinois, ministering in maximum-security facilities like Stateville and Pontiac, as well as the Cook County Jail. The men I’ve met behind bars have deeply shaped my faith—bearing witness to God’s grace, mercy, and faithfulness in their lives not only inspires me, but also challenges my daily walk.
With a background in sales, I now see each day in my philanthropy work as an invitation to join in God’s mission of making all things new—especially among those the world too often neglects.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
In Matthew 25, Jesus identifies Himself with the hungry, the stranger, and the imprisoned. When we visit jails and prisons and care for the formerly incarcerated, we are, in a sacred and mysterious way, serving Christ Himself.

Fred Reyes
Philanthropy Relationship Manager
I eagerly joined Men of Valor in 2024 with a deep desire to assist our ministry in sharing the Gospel with men who have been incarcerated. The men in our program need to be reminded that they are loved with the love of Christ, and they have another chance to change their life’s trajectory to positively affect themselves, their families and their community.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes to Men of Valor because sharing Christ with others has been exemplified by my parents and brothers throughout my entire life. My father served the California Department of Corrections, Nueces County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Federal Marshall Service. I observed dad continually share the love of Christ with men who desperately needed hope and a Savior. Once I realized the mission and vision of MOV, I was confidant this is where I needed to serve.
In my role, I work to build relationships with local churches and seek to raise financial resources for MOV. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, serving my church and other local non-profit ministries.

Grace Cordero
SNAP E&T Administrator
I became a part of the Men of Valor Team in late 2024. My role is to help connect our men to valuable benefits and resources they will need to prepare and get back to work. More importantly, I believe that the Lord is allowing me to be another person to inject hope into their new path.
Why did I say yes to Men of Valor?
I’d been praying to work somewhere I could feel as if I was part of changing the world with the transformative power of the gospel. YES was the only option for me.
In my role I facilitate the SNAP application process and act as an advocate throughout and provide case management for their E&T (Employment & Training) file on the DOL website.
In my personal time I enjoy spending it with my kids & grands. In addition, I enjoy gardening and fixing up my house.

Genevieve Turner Muckle
Chief of Staff
As the Chief of Staff, Genevieve drives alignment across all employees, projects, and programs to ensure mission-critical outcomes are met. This includes acting as the CEO’s personal Google account and the Executive Tetris Master, constantly rearranging priorities and moving pieces to optimize success. Genevieve began her career as a Victim Witness Coordinator in felony sessions court, a position she believes all should experience to truly understand the vulnerable and volatile nature of America’s criminal justice system. After years of research in national and international criminogenics, continuing on a path to law school and practicing civil litigation, and acting as Special Counsel for the Knox County Sheriff in matters of child abuse, child sex crimes, and domestic violence, she has failed her way up into a job that allows her to serve on a scale she could never have imagined.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I watched Men of Valor from afar. Growth was intentional, the staff beamed Jesus over religion, and there was a clear desire to walk alongside those served. There weren’t many women on the team when I began, especially not on the frontline, but MOV took a chance on me and let me come on board. There’s a lot in the Bible that is gray to me, and I relish living in that tension. It’s always been clear, though, that how we treat the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the poor, the sick, and those in prison defines what we believe loving God looks like.

Hannah Redden
Counseling Therapist
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), originally from a small town in Louisiana. My early career focused on early childhood development, where I worked to identify and address the impact of trauma during a child’s most formative years. Over time, I saw how those early experiences often shape who we become as adults. I’ve worked with incarcerated individuals in various capacities, which led me to focus on supporting men reentering the community after release.
At Men of Valor, I bring my experience into helping men explore their pasts, understand the roots of their pain, and begin to heal. My work is grounded in compassion, connection, and a deep belief in each person’s ability to grow. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and safe enough to do the hard work of healing and rebuilding their lives—with dignity, support, and the hope of lasting change.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I came to Men of Valor because I was drawn to its strong values, genuine kindness, and commitment to transformation. The team’s warmth and culture of appreciation create a healthy, faith driven environment. One where I can feel supported and aligned in purpose and mission.

Janna Carlson
Family Ministry & Events
I joined the Men of Valor team in 2010 while my father-in-law and MOV founder, Carl Carlson, was still leading the ministry. I began as a volunteer with the Family Ministry team and soon became MOV’s first official administrative assistant, working closely with Carl to modernize outdated systems and provide support across departments. Today, I have the privilege of walking alongside Men of Valor families as the Nashville Family Children’s Director—loving, supporting, and encouraging them through intentional relationship-building that reflects the heart of Christ.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband, our beautiful adopted daughter, our two dogs, cat, and whatever foster kids God places in our home at that time. I also enjoy traveling, being outdoors, and always advocating for “the least of these.”
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
My greatest passion has always been helping others grow and thrive according to the unique design God has placed within them. As a foster mom and child advocate, I’ve witnessed the generational trauma caused by fatherlessness and incarceration. Yet, I believe with all my heart that healing, restoration, and reunification are possible through Christ! I’m so grateful I said “yes” to being part of His redemptive work through Men of Valor.

Jason Hayes
Re-Entry Minister
In 2022, I entered the Men of Valor Discipleship Academy following my release from prison, seeking a better way of life—one rooted in Jesus Christ and grounded in godly structure, which I had never truly experienced before. Through His Word, the guidance of this ministry, and the discipline of the program, God transformed me into the man I am today. Now, by His grace, I serve both the Lord, the men coming into the program, and the very ministry that discipled me—faithfully answering the call to be the man God created me to be.
Why did I say yes to Men of Valor?
It was a no-brainer. God used this ministry as a powerful tool to transform my life. When I was a participant, I experienced firsthand the impact of being served with compassion and purpose. So, when the opportunity came to serve men coming out of incarceration in the same way, I couldn’t say no. This is more than service—it’s a calling.
In my role, I support the team in daily operations while actively investing in the spiritual growth of the men we serve. This includes leading Bible studies, providing spiritual counseling, facilitating Gospel-centered classes, offering encouragement, and cultivating meaningful relationships. I also oversee the MOV Graduate House, ensuring a supportive and structured environment for continued development.
Outside of work, I love spending time with family; especially my two beautiful granddaughters; Ava and Addie. I also have a passion for collecting sports and wrestling memorabilia.

Jeffrey Phipps
Student Relations Minister
I was formerly incarcerated at Whiteville Corrections Facility –July I was saved in prison by a Prison Minister, made Parole in July and I came to MOV scared and confused But little did I know that God had a plan for my life and showed me that plan Once I fully submitted to his will and way.
I have 2 daughters Abby and Emma God restored and reconnected our relationships. The life I live now I am grateful for God’s Grace and love. I am living my life on purpose as a father to my daughter and as a Student Relations Minister for Men of Valor. I exemplify the vision of Men of Valor reconciling men to God, their family and society,
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I love working for company that believes in me and guys like myself.

John Holloway
Systems Analyst
While I was attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville for my bachelor’s degree in business administration (Go Vols), I discovered the great things God was doing through Men of Valor. My career with this amazing organization started with volunteering at events, then working internally via internship with the Knoxville branch, and finally being offered a position that is based out of the Nashville branch. Outside of work, I am a man of many hobbies, but some include wakeboarding, golfing, and traveling.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes with a massive smile on my face because I have been the son of incarcerated parents and have lived through the struggles of it. The opportunity to aid those in these situations meant the world to me. Being able to use what I’ve learned in my education and turn that into a positive and noticeable difference within my community is a blessing that I thank God for every day that I wake up.

Julie Lopez
Donor Relations Analyst
My name is Julie Lopez. My husband and I have six children and five grandchildren. I hold a Bachelor of Music Education degree, and I have taught in schools and privately since 1983.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I have been involved in MOV for more than a decade as a volunteer and contract labor, and Iofficially became an employee in 2022. I enjoy working in a ministry where God’s Word and His purposes are front and center. The work relationships are deeper because we are not only colleagues, but also brothers and sisters in Christ.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?I enjoy the opportunity to connect with donors and families of participants on the phone and by email. Whenever I get to interact with the men at Valor Ridge or Valor Way, it’s always a blessing to see God moving in their lives. I’m thankful to be a part of Men of Valor.

Karen Carlson
Administrative Assistant
Many years ago, when my husband, Carl, a former inmate, realized the Lord was leading him back to prison—a place he had vowed never to return—he was both humbled and intrigued by it. He asked me a thoughtful question: “Who do you think will want to help men in prison?”
I told him I had no idea.
But God did. And oh, the people, places and things He was about to show us!
In January 1997, after nearly two decades out (a long period of preparation through many things) Carl did indeed go back to prison, only this time to minister. He had a little money and a few good men with him. Oh… and Jesus!
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
All of us at Men of Valor have been asked why we said yes to this calling. For me, it’s because I met and got to know a Spirit-filled man, life transformed, mission clear, following the Savior. More than that, it’s because I knew and trusted the One who had brought us together. That was in 1980. Forty-five years later, I have seen with my own eyes what God can do through “the least of these.” Through His people—the workers, the volunteers, the donors, the pray-ers, and the men and families they all serve.
My involvement with Men of Valor has always been a supportive role, first for Carl, then for anyone needing prayer or a welcome-in. These aren’t in my actual job description, which is office work. I love my admin work, too, and I’m supremely thankful for it. But these other things are my favorites. I’m past retirement age now, but I hope to “work” a little while longer, the Father willing. When you love what you do, it’s not really work. It’s a gift from God.
Thus far He has led us… one incredible story after another. And He will lead us Home.

Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
In 2021, I had an opportunity to become the first female Aftercare staff member ata male faith-based aftercare program, answering God’s call. I serve to break generational cycles of incarceration and be a genuine role model—offering hope, not judgment, in obedience to God’s assignment on my life.

Kevin L. Parks
Recovery Coach
Kevin L. Parks joined Men of Valor Knoxville in April 2025, bringing lived wisdom, insight, and an unwavering heart for redemption. A native of Knoxville and U.S. Navy Veteran, Parks believes firmly in second chances and refuses to let his past define his future. With God’s grace and mercy, his life has been restored, and now he sees it as his calling to walk alongside others in their journey toward restoration.
As a coach, Parks uses trauma-informed care, emotional coaching, and spiritual guidance to support men transitioning from incarceration and addiction. Men of Valor inspired him to pursue licensure as an LMFT, deepening his professional path and personal mission.
Outside of work, Parks enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Harmony, daughters Kortnie and Kameryn, and their English bulldog Panda. He serves as a Deacon at Freedom Fellowship and is an active member of the 100 Black Men Knoxville and Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“God restored my life—and now it’s my responsibility to help others experience that same transformation. That’s why I said yes to Men of Valor.”

Kris Byrd
Family & Children/Reentry Minister
In June 2023, I joined Men of Valor as a participant, seeking growth, healing, and spiritual renewal. Just a year later, I stepped into the role of Re-entry Minister and Family Ministry Coordinator, answering a divine call placed on my life. My journey—marked by grace, redemption, and transformation—has equipped me to walk alongside men facing challenges I’ve overcome and to minister the gospel with authenticity and compassion.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact the Family and Children’s Ministry had on my own relationship with my children, and it deeply fuels my passion for serving the families of our men. The community, fellowship, and support I received through Men of Valor radically shaped my life, and today, I humbly extend that same love to others.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said “yes” to Men of Valor because the Lord told me “yes” through prayer and scripture. Serving here is not just a job—it’s a calling. I’m honored to play a part in building God’s kingdom and pray that He continues to use me as a vessel for His glory.

Lance Roy
Prison and Jail Minister
I joined the Men of Valor team in 2022 after emerging from one of the darkest seasons of my life—when I was enslaved by alcohol. Today, I’m blessed to pour compassion into the lives of men stepping out of their own valleys of despair. Through this ministry, I’ve seen God’s grace transform hopelessness into hope. And now my calling is to remind others that when God writes our future, He never consults our past.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I joined Men of Valor because I believe every man, regardless of his past, deserves a chance to step into the life God has designed for him. Because purpose, compassion, and God’s redemptive power are the reasons I get up each morning with passion for this ministry. After many jobs and a few careers, I finally discovered a true calling with purpose.

Laurie Mathis
Human Resources Manager
Having worked over 25+ years in human resources management for large multi-state corporations, being responsible for overseeing all human resources administration, including payroll, benefits, recruitment, employee relations, and federal and state compliance regulations, I experienced growth opportunities, but those came with consequences. During these years, I continued to climb the corporate ladder, making more money, adding more stress, and less enjoyment. My job had become my idol. It took God bringing me to my knees to realize all the stress and added pressures of the climb were unhealthy. He was the only one who could help guide my new path. I prayed for a sign, a new beginning, a less stressful job, one that could restore joy and return me to a balanced work-life. One that would bring me satisfaction and align with my beliefs. God was faithful and presented me with the opportunity to join Men of Valor in 2022. I am truly blessed with overflowing joy to be able to work in a faith-based non-profit ministry environment, which has drawn me personally closer to the Lord. I am encouraged by the testimonies our participants (past and present) share about their prior life and how MOV has provided them with love and hope for a new beginning.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
The Lord provided a way, so it was easy to say yes to an answered prayer. He gave me an opportunity to utilize my years of HR experience on a smaller scale, moving away from private corporations to the non-profit faith-based ministry sector. I am thankful to have the flexibility to work from home alongside other like-minded believers who pray, encourage one another, and provide accountability.

Lupita Howell
Spanish Outreach Coordinator
I’ve been blessed to be part of the Men of Valor family since 2019. As an attorney and former labor judge in Mexico, God gave me a deep passion for justice, compassion, and restoration.
Today, He continues to use my life through the ministry of Men of Valor to reach and serve the Hispanic community in jails and prisons. It is a privilege to support our Spanish-speaking inmates as they grow in their faith and encounter the redeeming and transforming power of Jesus Christ.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I agree with the mission of Men of Valor, as it aligns with God’s Word to visit those who are incarcerated. One of my responsibilities is to coordinate Hispanic pastors and leaders who volunteer by leading D-Groups in Spanish in jails and prisons. My heart fills with joy every time volunteers share with me how God is working through them, transforming the hearts of the inmates.

Marcus D. Martin
Prison Minister
I’ve been employed by Men of Valor since 2004, introduced to Men of Valor by the man that led me to Jesus, while incarcerated, back in November of 1999, Mr. Andrey Brinson.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
After saying yes to Jesus many things changed in my heart, and mind concerning how I viewed life itself. For the first time I believed I was experiencing what a true calling on my life really was as opposed to just having a job with a ministry.
Men of Valor’s founder Mr. Carl Carlson would tell me from time to time in that he hired me because of my heart for the men we serve. I do realize today that I do have a passion to help men like me to see and experience new life, by first coming to know Jesus as Lord.
Other things I enjoy, writing and producing music, art, creating low-budget short films, and playing UNO with my wife Carla and my son M.J.

Mark Hodge
Reentry Manager
I spent most of my life in the Philadelphia area, directionless, without ambition, void of hope, and plagued with self-centered pride. Aimlessly tossed by the wind into the propaganda the world portrays as “life,” I found myself divorced, bitter, and empty. Desperate to find meaning and purpose, I uprooted my life in Pennsylvania, with a brief stay in Miami, FL, before ultimately planting roots in Nashville, TN. Having now understood the Good News of the Gospel and committed my life to the mission of grace through Christ, I devoted myself to college ministry, men’s group leadership, and church servanthood while completing my Master of Divinity in Christian Leadership and Church Ministry from Liberty University. Having joined Men of Valor in 2021 as a volunteer, I now reside as the Reentry Manager at the Nashville campus.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“…the gates of hell will not prevail” (Matt 16:18) Men of Valor is on mission to push back against the powers of evil; the darkness that has kept these men from their God ordained purpose; this is a battle worth fighting—for the sake of our men, their families, and the community.
In my role, I uphold the standard of excellence exemplified by Christ on the Nashville campus, empowering our staff to step into their callings with passion and integrity, while devoted to providing our students with a safe place to thrive.
Outside of work, I am a devoted husband to my wife, Rachel, and a blessed father to my two children: Shiloh and Asa. I’m an avid learner and pursuer of Truth.

Meryam Yeager
Operations Support Specialist
I had been asking God to give me a purpose that honored Him and He answered that prayer by opening the door to Men of Valor. With two brothers who were in and out of prison from a young age, this ministry is deeply personal to me. Sadly, they both passed away before they were able to fully surrender their lives to God. Now, I have the privilege of working in a ministry where I get to witness men experience real transformation and freedom through Christ.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“Because I’ve seen that when men truly turn to the Lord, He can break every bond holding them back.”
In my role, I support financial operations, procurement, vendor relations, technology, communication management, and other key tasks that keep our organization running smoothly.

Michael Check
Chief Philanthropy Officer
I met our founder, Carl Carlson as a teenager and have been connected to the ministry since day one and officially became an employee in 2016. I’ve seen the dramatic life changing effect that Jesus had on him and the countless numbers of men that we serve.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I felt the incredible pull from the Lord to serve in this ministry. It took many years, but I finally submitted and listened.
As the Chief Philanthropy Officer, I’m in charge of all our fundraising efforts for the ministry.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife, our two adult daughters and two grandchildren. I’m an avid cyclist and love a good book during my downtime.

Michael Cummins
Transportation Coordinator
I spent 30 years in the streets neglecting my family and all my responsibilities due to my drug habit. On August 27,2017 it all came to an end I was sentence to 10 years that’s when I gave my life to Christ.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I came to MOV because I wanted to build my relationship with Christ, and it was the best decision I could have made. I’ve been at Men of Valor for 5 years and today I have been blessed with a staff position of Transportation Coordinator.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family to whom I once denied but today all praises be to God and MOV, I now have a new life.

Michael Cyree
Re-entry Minister, Case Manager – Chattanooga
After 25 years in addiction and 17 years behind bars, I reached a moment of clarity at age 42—I knew I couldn’t keep living the way I was.
That’s when I surrendered my life to Jesus.
Everything changed from that point forward. I found hope, healing, and a calling through Men of Valor’s aftercare program.
After graduating in 2023, I joined the team to serve men who are walking the same road I once did.
I now support men transitioning out of incarceration, helping them rebuild their lives through Christ-centered recovery, structure, and community.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Because I was once the man looking for hope—and Men of Valor helped me find it. Now I get to do the same for others.
Outside of work, I enjoy encouraging men through mentorship, spending time outdoors, and staying grounded in God’s Word.

Michael King
Transportation Coordinator
Michael King accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 2014 during a Kairos weekend while incarcerated. That transformative moment marked the beginning of a new life dedicated to faith, growth, and service. Since then, Michael has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies, deepening his understanding of God’s Word and equipping him to serve others with wisdom and compassion. He is honored to work with Men of Valor, where he finds great joy in giving back—helping others instead of harming, and building up instead of tearing down. Michael is especially inspired by witnessing the powerful ways God transforms the lives of men coming out of prison, just as He did in his own life. His passion for ministry, combined with lived experience and education, makes him a valuable part of the Men of Valor mission.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I chose Men of Valor because I believe God led me here for a purpose—to grow closer to Him, support others with similar backgrounds in their walk with Christ, and discover His plan for my life. It’s a calling I’m grateful to follow each day.

Michael Sweatt
Reentry Minister/Case Manager
I joined the staff of Men of Valor in August 2025. I joined this ministry because I am a product of this ministry. I came to the Men of Valor program in January 2023. I was confused, angry, living in Shame, and guilt. The love that I received from the staff and volunteers tore down walls in my heart and help me see Jesus!
“Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?”
I chose Men of valor because I want to do the same in the lives of men just like me. I want to be a beacon of hope and a trophy of God’s Grace!

Michael Williams

Michael Williams is a servant leader originally from Dayton, Ohio, who came to faith in Jesus as a teenager. After graduating from Kentucky State University and Rhema Bible Training College, he has spent nearly the last three decades working in a myriad of ministry assignments. They include Camp Pastor, school teacher, short-term missionary, children’s pastor, youth pastor, Pastoral care pastor, chaplain for local Christian School, Associate Pastor, and Elder. Presently, he serves as the Employment Specialist on the aftercare staff of Men of Valor, a discipleship Academy for formerly incarcerated men. He lives in Antioch, Tennessee, with his wife of 23 years and three daughters.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes to Men of Valor because I believed that this ministry assignment was worthy of my time, talent, and treasure. In fact, I asked God specifically for the opportunity to serve Him and my neighbors at the same time. And he made this opportunity available.

Michelle Garcia
Chief Financial & Administrative Officer
I serve as the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer at Men of Valor, where I help oversee financial operations, compliance, donor management, and human resources. I’ve worked in nonprofit, business, and advocacy roles for over twenty-five years, and I’m grateful to use that experience to support Men of Valor’s mission of winning men in prison to Jesus Christ and discipling them. I have a heart for education and community outreach and have been involved in initiatives that serve both the Hispanic community and local families. I have called Murfreesboro home since 1996, and I earned my degree in Spanish and Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. My husband and I have two sons who keep us grounded and grateful. Every day, I’m reminded that God has extended grace to me, and it’s a privilege to be part of a team that seeks to share that grace with others.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes to Men of Valor because I believe in extending to others the same grace God has given me. I’m grateful to serve in a ministry built on biblical truth, where love and accountability are lived out daily – among both our staff and the men we serve.

Miles Oakley
Volunteer Minister
I am proud to have served Jesus here at Men of Valor since 2023. I know what it is like to feel broken & surrounded by darkness, and it is such a privilege to love & serve men coming out of incarceration here on the Ridge. It’s been incredible to not only see the student’s lives changed, but to also work with the men who are called to volunteer here. God has “good works prepared in advance for us to do,” and it has been encouraging & humbling to see our volunteers use their unique gifts & personalities to help our men.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Because it’s an amazing organization with an important mission. To get to love people in Jesus’ name is a gift! Can’t believe I get to help people find a place to serve as my “work”.

Moriah Garland
Accounting Specialist
I joined Men of Valor in August 2019 during a season of rebuilding in my life. I was a few months into drug and alcohol recovery, trying to reestablish trust with my family and friends. I had just survived a tragic fire in my recovery residence – one that took the life of a dear friend – and was left grieving and starting over. In His loving mercy, God opened the door for me to serve with Men of Valor, and from the moment I walked through it, I was met with peace, purpose, and a sense of belonging.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Because I fell in love with the people – and I knew God was calling me here. He gave me a second chance, and the Men of Valor family became a part of my healing.
In my role as Accounting Specialist, I manage the bills, helping support the ministry behind the scenes so the mission can move forward every day.
Outside of work, I enjoy being the goofy aunt to my niece and nephews, singing, and learning how to be the child God always meant for me to be.

Na’Quon Manley
Reentry Minister
I joined Men of Valor on Feb 17, 2025, following where God instructed me to go. My heart for this ministry comes from understanding. I know what it feels to be on the outside waiting for family to reach the point of change, and I know what it feels like to encounter God’s grace when it’s not deserved.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“God placed me here, I’m not saying yes to Men of Valor. I’m saying yes to Jesus —We are growing the Kingdom. I want to be obedient, wherever God says to go I will go. I’m so blessed that this ministry is where he called me to.”
In my role, I oversee transportation, track evaluations, progress of participants, and overall needs of the men on campus, Men of Valor.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and two daughters, making music , and evangelizing in unique ways.

Rick Rogers
Reentry Manager – Knoxville
I joined Men of Valor in 2022 as a reentry minister. After graduating from Carson-Newman College, I spent 25 years in church ministry. I have enjoyed the transition to reentry ministry. I recently started taking classes for a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and will hopefully be better equipped to minister to our men. I enjoy helping men grow and walk in their faith as they rebuild relationships with family and friends. God has His hand on Men of Valor, and I’m glad to be able to serve alongside some wonderful men and women. Speaking of women, I have been married to Andrea for 28 years, and we are blessed with two wonderful daughters, Marti and Tori. I enjoy fishing in my free time.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I saw Carl Carlson’s testimony on video and was captivated by his emphasis on discipleship. As he talked about discipleship and then later wrote about the importance of discipleship in his book, Beyond the Walls, I knew Men of Valor was the ministry in which I wanted to serve.

Sally Polvino
Grants Fiscal Analyst
B.B.A. from Baylor University
I started at Men of Valor in March of 2025. I am so happy to be part of a Christian organization that puts God first. Having several family members who have been in and out of incarceration, I know firsthand the struggle they deal with upon release in trying to reorient to society and be productive and not just return to their old way of life. I am proud to be able to be a part of helping people who are going through this same thing.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Because I believe in what the organization is doing and feel there is a great need to provide individuals being released with hope for their future and steps to take to achieve it.
In my role, I work with the financial aspect of all the grants including budgeting, spending and invoicing to make sure that we are utilizing these resources in the best possible way.
Outside of work, I love music and going to see my husband and many friends play live music on the weekends! I also love traveling to new places, trivia nights and playing pickleball.

Scott Waisner
Digital Skills Minister (Lead)
I joined Men of Valor in October 2022. While I have never been incarcerated myself, I know that the Mercy and Grace of God is not limited to only a few, and that the Love and Hope of Christ is given to be shared. I have long felt a Call to ministry, but never would have imagined that this would be where God had in mind.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Matthew 25:34-36 lists many things The King is praising His followers for doing. Men of Valor is the only place I have found where I can do ALL of them.

Tevin Peterson
Discipleship Director
I joined Men of Valor in 2005 for a lot of reasons. First and foremost was the fact that God was kind enough to make it clear that this was where He intended me to be. Second, the leadership had genuine commitment to winning men to Jesus Christ AND discipling them! I’m passionate about discipleship because I’m a product of discipleship. Men of Valor’s consuming commitment to equip men for success through utilizing the Bible’s unparalleled wisdom keeps me fired up!
In my role, I work intimately with volunteer and staff recruitment, training, and encouragement. I also play a role in creating discipleship programming, in church partnerships and in maintaining the amazing culture we have at MOV.
Outside of work, I have a breathtaking, godly wife of more than 25 years. I love spending time with her and our three brilliant children – each of them brings me true joy!
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Because I long for people to get to know Jesus Christ. If a person chooses to get to know Him, they’ll fall in love with Him and keep growing in that love for all of eternity! Each day here I get to be a part of that journey! *Acts 20:24

Rev. Tim Riley
Prison Minister and SBC Chaplain
I joined Men of Valor in December 2022 because I was a Pastor in church for many years, then a Chaplain in the prison system and wanted more of a role in in their tough places . I enjoy discipling men and pouring into their lives . Men of Valor encouraged us in our role to build relationships, show the love of Christ and the path of Christ. MOV also allowed us to not only encourage and teach them but also provided tangible love on the outside with housing jobs and support to help them in their transition on the outside . MOV had more of the complete package, and lives were truly being changed.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
I said yes for three reasons, one better flexibility for my family needs, more streamlined discipleship to men and God directed me in this.
Outside of work, I have a beautiful wife who helps shape my character and pushes me to be my best . We have 7 daughters so supporting my family brings me joy. We like to go on hikes and travel. We have been on multiples international mission trips and love adventure together .

Tom McKay
Financial Operations Specialist
I serve Men of Valor by managing cash flow forecasts, budgets, audits, and financial reporting—supporting accuracy, efficiency, and sound financial decisions. My goal is to reflect Christ’s love while helping our staff and participants steward God’s resources for redemption and restoration.
I first connected with Men of Valor as a job partner and saw how God transforms lives. In July 2024, I joined the staff full-time. This role has been a clear answer to prayer. Not long ago, my wife said, “This is probably the best job you’ve had.” I couldn’t agree more.
Outside of work, I enjoy life with my wife, our children, and being “Papa” to our grandsons. I also teach an online Business Management class at MTSU and hold degrees in engineering, business, and theology.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
This role is meaningful second-half work—an answer to prayer that lets me steward God’s grace and apply my experience in leadership, finance, and ministry to help men find restoration and freedom in Christ.

Tommy Vallejos
Chief of Hispanic Ministry & Jails
I joined Men of Valor in 2018 with a deep desire to reach those who are lost behind prison bars. My passion for prison ministry began in 1992 and has been a lifelong calling. Having had three brothers and a sister incarcerated, I felt a strong personal drive to bring hope and transformation to individuals behind the walls of incarceration. I often reflect on how my decision to join the military helped steer my life in a different direction and kept me from following the same path to prison.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
Joining Men of Valor was a natural step for me, as this ministry aligns closely with both my personal experiences and my long-standing commitment to serving those in prison. Leaving full-time pastoral ministry was not an easy decision, but it became clear that stepping into this role allowed me to fully pursue the work that has always been closest to my heart.

Will Leffew
Reentry Minister & Student Relations
I joined Men of Valor in 2021 as a student after coming out of incarceration. Through the program, I experienced God’s grace and transformation in my life. Today, I serve on staff with a passion to help other men walk through the same journey of redemption that I once did. My goal is to help men see that there is freedom and life in Jesus Christ.
Why did you say yes to Men of Valor?
“Coming to Men of Valor changed my life. It has helped me become a good father, husband, and brother and to be a productive member of society. I want to help men the way that I was helped.”
In my role, I walk hand in hand with the men offering love, support, and accountability. Helping the men find a new way of living life through Jesus Christ.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and kids.
