For Anthony McRae, the relationship with his own father was complicated. His dad was present, but work often pulled him away. Promises like “We’ll go fishing in the morning” would go unfulfilled, leaving Anthony to grow up feeling like a lone wolf. In his heart, he vowed he would never forgive his father.

When Anthony became a father at 25, the cycle of absence repeated itself. Though he was physically around, alcohol and self-centered living robbed him of the quality time his children deserved. “I wasn’t really there… it was all about me, not about my children,” he admits.

Everything began to change when Anthony connected with Men of Valor. Surrounded by a community marked by love and grace, he heard God’s voice stirring in his heart: “Reconcile with your father. Forgive. I forgive you.” That reminder of his heavenly Father’s mercy began to reshape Anthony’s outlook—not just on his dad, but on his own role as a father.

Now, Anthony is committed to a different kind of legacy. He’s learning to be patient, understanding, and attentive. He treasures every moment with his kids, from simple conversations to unforgettable adventures—like the day his son reeled in a 16-pound catfish. “It almost brought tears to my eyes… just finding something that he loves,” Anthony recalls.

Looking ahead, Anthony’s vision is clear: “I’m going to be the best father I can be and lead my children to whatever path or career they want to go to. I don’t want them to ever feel like they’re in this alone—because they’re not. Not with me, and not with God.”
