Brentwood, Tennessee – Hundreds of local supporters, volunteers and community leaders gathered at the Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood, Tennessee to celebrate Men of Valor, a local prison ministry that has been serving the local community for over two decades. Among those in attendance included members of the clergy, the formerly incarcerated, and family members of those currently incarcerated.

Founded by Carl Carlson, who himself was a former prison inmate, Men of Valor is a unique prison ministry that disciples men in the Metro Davidson County Detention Center through a biblical and gospel-based program. At a time when the national recidivism rate is nearly seventy percent, for men who complete Men of Valor’s 6-month program inside the prison and 12-month program outside the prison, the recidivism rate is below 15%.

Raul Lopez, Executive Director of Men of Valor, said following the breakfast:

“We praise God for our local community that is supporting Men of Valor through prayer, time and financial contributions. Today was a chance to thank them for their support, but also to encourage one another to recommit ourselves to the noble pursuit of caring for the least of these inside the prison system.” Lopez went on to add, “Men of Valor is committed to bringing hope to the hopeless.”
