Position Overview

The Lead Digital Skills Minister is responsible for oversight of the Digital Skills Education Initiative which seeks to provide basic and enhanced computer, application (app), and digital education training to individuals transitioning from incarceration in such a way that promotes a fulfilling life after release. This program is essential in helping participants develop not only foundational digital skills that will empower them to succeed in today’s technology-driven world, but the opportunity for further learning that promotes upward mobility in work and life skills.

This position will collaborate with and oversee Digital Skills Ministers to ensure men are able to exit the program with the market-relevant skills, experience, abilities, and qualifications necessary to further their personal and professional goals in digital environments. Additionally, this position will lead the creation and modification of curriculum used by Digital Skills Ministers to open a new world of possibilities for jobs outside of labor and enhance financial independence. The Lead Digital Skills Minister will also be responsible for collecting, tracking, and reporting program outcomes to grant managers and leadership.

The Lead Digital Skills Minister will also deliver engaging, accessible, and trauma-informed lessons that support the participants’ journey toward personal growth, employment, and successful reintegration into society.  The Lead Digital Skills Minister will reflect and honor Christ as he/she works to provide holistic services and mentorship.

This job will entail syllabus and content building, classroom instruction, and one-on-one mentoring.

Compensation 

This is a grant funded position with a salary of $67,528 plus a competitive benefits package.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain proficiency in all MOV studies, curriculum, training, and spiritual disciplines.
  • Provide one-on-one mentoring (meet, encourage, and pray) with reentry participants.
  • Lead the creation of Digital Skills syllabus and curriculum for basic knowledge, and individualized digital learning plans.
  • Collaborate with Digital Skills Ministers and other staff to ensure all grant defined program outcomes are tracked, reported correctly, and all outcomes are being met according to grant defined timelines.
  • Create and update reports used by the grants department for appropriate grant reporting.
  • Oversee 2 Digital Skills Ministers and provide supervision and leadership to ensure participants are supported in their journey toward personal growth, employment, and successful reintegration into society.
  • Record tips and lessons for dispersion.
  • Teach basic computer skills including hardware usage, operating systems (Windows, macOS), internet navigation, email communication, file management, and productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
  • Revise the MOV’s curriculum to integrate digital tools, particularly enhancing the Financial Literacy component to maximize participants outcomes.
  • Tailor lessons to meet the needs of individuals with limited prior exposure to technology, ensuring content is relevant, accessible, and engaging.
  • Provide one-on-one support to participants, addressing individual learning challenges and offering personalized guidance.
  • Monitor participant progress, provide constructive feedback, and assess understanding of core concepts. Ensure students are developing the skills necessary to use computers confidently in daily life and work settings.
  • Provide oversite and training for student usage of TN Dept of Labor tablets.
  • Provide oversight and training for student usage of Transfer Learning and VR Headsets.
  • Facilitate a digital literacy class in a correctional facility as needed.
  • Identify certificate courses to form the basis of the curriculum so men will begin creating a list of digital certificates they can list on their resumes. Examples include Google Applied Digital Skills (includes cybersecurity) and Microsoft 360-Beginner.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to MOV graduates based on the core program components (Basic Digital Skills for Employment and Life, Financial Literacy and Digital Tools for Financial Management, Mastering Digital Tools for Life, and Digital Careers Exploration).
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment by incorporating trauma-informed teaching practices. Foster respect, dignity, and trust in all interactions with participants.
  • Work closely with program coordinators, case managers, and other support staff to ensure participants receive comprehensive support, including digital literacy, employment readiness, and other life skills.
  • Assist participants in accessing resources (such as online job applications, digital tools, and online learning platforms) to further their career goals and digital proficiency.
  • Help participants understand how to use digital tools for job searches, resume building, communication with employers, and workplace productivity.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and participation, and report on outcomes to program leadership.
  • Track, maintain, and share accurate, relevant data regarding date and time of all program classes led by staff and or volunteers including participant names, participant TN or County number.
  • Assist in coordinating Men of Valor special events (as needed).
  • Fellowship, encourage, and pray with reentry students and graduates while continuing to build relationships.
  • Other duties as needed or assigned.

  • Must be able to use discretion in matters related to the ministry and use your best judgment to problem solve and guide the client through Biblical principles.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Daily usage of office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Google, Bill (Divvy) credit card, TEAMS and QuickBooks Workforce (Payroll self-service & TIME) applications.
  • Ability to break down complex digital concepts into simple, understandable lessons.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient, empathetic, and encouraging approach.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent years of work-related experience.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and/or social services a plus.
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching or tutoring basic computer skills, ideally with adult learners or individuals facing significant barriers to employment or education.
  • Required to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.
  • A valid driver’s license and active personal car insurance.
  • Travel as required to perform prison duties and upon request to attend prison ministry events, functions, fundraisers, and meetings, etc.
